Told a black coworker that I was once very poor as a child and as an adult and he said but you weren’t black poor. As a kid we received the commodities box and got our eggs from relatives who raised fighting roosters. A mayonnaise sandwich was a treat for us. As an adult I served 8 years in the Navy living on a Navy ship and when I got out I lived in an efficiency apartment with no stove and a drug dealing hooker for a Nextdoor neighbor all so I could continue to afford my child support payments to my exwife. I also have relatives that were sent to Angola prison and had been arrested for drugs and armed robbery. I saw those relatives as an example of how not to live. I now live in a traditional brick home of roughly 1300 sqft with my wife and am on my 25th year of working at a local hospital. Poor isn’t an excuse for living like trash or committing crimes. It’s a contributing factor in the bad choices you make but it isn’t an excuse for those choices.
Never support inclusion when it involves delusion
