If anyone believes that Putin isn’t interested in the traditional Russian/Soviet acquisition of Crimea and the Ukraine they’re denying history. With its acquisition then Putin would go after the rest of the Black and Baltic Sea regions.
That’d bode ill for both North and South America in the Atlantic should the Russians decide to interrupt our ocean trade to Europe.
Can other means be used to dissuade the Russians other than force? Perhaps, but I’m not sure. Both Chamberlain and Quisling learned the harsh lessons of appeasement.
