My cousin (half American/half Mexican) applied for a managerial job. He has excellent credentials and ran city bus services in major cities. After the job interview he asked bluntly “Honestly what are my chances?” The reply was “You are very qualified but you are too white”. While telling him this he read his application and noticed his moms maiden name. “Wait a minute, is your mom hispanic?” “Yeah, I am half Mexican” —“Well in that case you got the job!” “Are you telling me I got the job because I am Mexican?” “Unofficially—yes”…………this was over 20 years ago.
